Details

This EUROTAS project builds a prototype integrated catchment management system (CMS) for catchment management planning with reference to flood defence issues. It aims to improve the effectiveness and economic performance of river flood defence activities by ensuring that they do not conflict with other functions. It also ensures that they are technically, economically and environmentally sustainable.

Outcome

The results of this project have been circulated through scientific papers, an end of project conference and implementation of the prototype integrated modelling framework. This implementation was demonstrated for UK conditions by HR Wallingford and UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology as the ‘Thames Catchment Study’. This also included support from the Environment Agency Thames Region.

This project ran from 1997 to 2001 at a cost of £200,000.
