You must notify Roads Service to transport an abnormal load by road in Northern Ireland.

An abnormal load is one which falls outside of normal limits for length, width or weight.

Completing the application

You need to give the following information:

  • your details
  • proposed route
  • vehicle details
  • whether you have notified the police

You need to submit your form to Roads Service at least 2 working days before the proposed movement.

Conditions

You must indemnify the Department for Regional Development (DRD) against any damage caused to a road or bridge during the move.

A vehicle carrying an abnormal load is not allowed to exceed its plated weight.
