Exchange a non-GB driving licence

You may be able to exchange your licence.

You can exchange your licence up to five years after you became resident, if it was issued on or after 1 April 1991. The fee is £43.

  1. Order form D1 from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA).

  2. Send the form, fee and any documents you need (including your driving licence) to the address on the form.

  3. Your licence will usually arrive within 3 weeks. It might take longer if you’ve told DVLA about a medical condition and your details need to be checked.
