You can continue to drive in the UK without exchanging your licence for 12 months after becoming resident.
After 12 months you must exchange your licence to keep driving a car. You can exchange it up to 5 years after becoming resident, if it has not expired. You cannot exchange your motorcycle entitlement.
Exchange your licence
-
Request a Letter of Entitlement (LoE) from the Republic of Moldova Public Services Agency.
-
Get a D1 application form from a Post Office that offers DVLA services.
-
Send the form, £43 fee and any documents you need (including your driving licence and your Driving Licence Verification Document) to the address on the form.
-
Your licence will usually arrive within 3 weeks. It might take longer if you’ve told DVLA about a medical condition and your details need to be checked.
If you want to ride a motorcycle
You’ll be given provisional motorcycle entitlement if you exchange your full valid licence within 5 years of becoming resident. You’ll then need to take a theory test and practical test.
If you do not exchange your licence within 5 years of becoming resident, you’ll need to get a provisional driving licence in order to take the tests.
