16 March 2017: In view of the evidence available to the CMA at this stage, the CMA revoked the initial enforcement order.

10 March 2017: The CMA served an initial enforcement order under section 72(2) of the Enterprise Act 2002 on Stanley Black & Decker, Inc., Stanley Works Limited (THE) and Stanley Black & Decker UK Limited in relation to the completed acquisition by Stanley Black & Decker, Inc. of the assets of Newell Brands, Inc. business.

Launch of merger inquiry

22 February 2017: The CMA announced the launch of its merger inquiry by notice to the parties.

Invitation to comment: Now closed

15 February 2017: The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is considering whether it is or may be the case that this transaction, if carried into effect, will result in the creation of a relevant merger situation under the merger provisions of the Enterprise Act 2002 and, if so, whether the creation of that situation may be expected to result, in a substantial lessening of competition within any market or markets in the United Kingdom for goods or services.
