Phase 1

FNTQ decision announced

31 May 2018: The CMA has decided that the anticipated acquisition by Informa plc of UBM plc does not qualify for investigation under the merger provisions of the Enterprise Act 2002.

Invitation to comment: Closes 14 May 2018

26 April 2018: The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is considering whether it is or may be the case that this transaction, if carried into effect, will result in the creation of a relevant merger situation under the merger provisions of the Enterprise Act 2002 and, if so, whether the creation of that situation may be expected to result in a substantial lessening of competition within any market or markets in the United Kingdom for goods or services.

To assist it with this assessment, the CMA invites comments on the transaction from any interested party. This includes comments on whether Informa and UBM might, as a result of the transaction, have a combined share of 25% or more of the supply or consumption of any goods or services in the UK (or in a substantial part of the UK).

Launch of merger inquiry

26 April 2018: The CMA announced the launch of its merger inquiry by notice to the parties.
