Cancel your visa, immigration or citizenship application

You can ask to cancel (withdraw) an application for a visa, visa extension or citizenship.

How you do this depends on where you applied and whether you have already given your fingerprints and photo (‘biometric information’).

You can usually only get your fee refunded if you have not already given your biometric information.

You cannot stop the cancellation once it’s been received by the Home Office.

If you applied from outside the UK

If you have not yet given your fingerprints and photo, you can cancel your application online and your fee will be refunded.

How you cancel depends on whether you applied using:

  • Visa4UK - sign in to your account then find the refund link on the payment confirmation page
  • AccessUK - sign in to your account using the link from your sign-up email, then go to ‘Section 6: further actions’ to cancel your application

If you have already given your fingerprints and photo, contact UKVI to cancel your application. Your fee will not be refunded.

If you’re cancelling because of coronavirus (COVID-19)

If you have already given your biometric information but are unable to travel to the UK because of coronavirus, send an email to the coronavirus immigration help centre to cancel your application. They will let you know if your fee will be refunded or not.

Your email must be in English and include:

  • your full name
  • your nationality
  • your date of birth
  • any UKVI reference numbers you have been given

Use ‘CANCELLATION REQUEST’ as the subject line.

Cancel your application online.

You can only get your fee refunded if you have not already given your biometric information.

It’s sometimes possible to get your passport or other documents returned without withdrawing your application - you’ll be told whether you can do this when you fill in the form.

You may lose your permission to stay in the UK if you cancel your application.

If you’ve already cancelled your application

If you cancelled your application because of coronavirus, you can email the coronavirus immigration help centre to request a refund. They will let you know if your fee will be refunded or not.
