5. Booking the practical tests

There are 3 ways you can book and arrange the driving ability and instructional ability practical tests.

Once you’ve passed the theory test you’ll get an application form to book the practical tests.

Option 1: arrange each separately

You can arrange both tests separately, and pay for them separately.

Option 2: consecutive tests

You can pay for both tests at the same time, and book for the instructional ability test to take place straight after the driving ability test.

You can’t take the instructional ability test if you fail the driving ability test - you’ll lose the fee you paid for the instructional ability test.

Option 3: progressive tests

You can pay for both tests at the same time, but book for the instructional ability test to be at least 1 day after the driving ability test.

You can retake the driving ability test instead of taking the instructional ability test if you fail it.
