Piper PA-28-181 Cherokee Archer II, G-BPAY

Summary:

The pilot was returning from Wellsbourne to Leicester Airport, expecting to land on Runway 28. He was cleared to land on Runway 22 because Runway 28 was not available. He configured the aircraft for landing with two stages of flap and initially adopted an approach speed of 65 kt. On short finals, he considered he was low and so increased power and raised the approach speed to 75 kt. Having regained the normal approach angle he touched down on the runway but he was unable to stop before the aircraft overran the end of the runway.
