Piper PA-28-181 Archer II, G-BNVE

Summary:

Recent building work at MCA Daedalus has resulted in the erection of a perimeter fence incorporating various gateways for use by aircraft. A pilot, unable to find a new grass taxiway, continued to taxi on a perimeter taxiway until coming to one of the gateways, which was only just wide enough for the aircraft. In attempting to pass through the gateway the left wing of the aircraft struck the gate. The investigation found that although information was available to the pilot about the gate and the grass taxiway, the entrance to the taxiway was not obvious. Whilst not the cause of the accident the investigation revealed a lack of a plan incorporating relevant information available for distribution to those not based at the airfield, which it was considered could lead to confusion in the future.
