Piper PA-28-140 Cherokee, G-AVLJ

The aircraft was on final approach and had been cleared to land when a seagull flew into the aircraft’s flight path. The pilot was unable to take avoiding action and the bird struck the left windscreen causing it to shatter. The remains of the bird entered the cockpit and hit the pilot, dislodging his headset. The pilot was able to make a normal landing, after which he recovered the headset from the rear of the aircraft and informed ATC of the incident. The pilot then taxied the aircraft to its assigned parking place where he received first aid for minor injuries.
