The UK Science and Innovation Network Taiwan (SIN Taiwan) builds and promotes strategic collaboration between Taiwan and the UK on key science and innovation themes.

Science and innovation underpin the economies of both Taiwan and the UK. Encouraging cooperation therefore produces benefits for both.

To promote international collaboration the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office jointly fund the UK Science & Innovation Network based in over 40 countries and territories around the world.

For an introductory brief which covers the local Science and Innovation landscape, UK priorities and successes in Taiwan, read the UK Science and Innovation Network Snapshot here.

Responsibilities

The SIN network contributes to the science and innovation policies of governments, industry and academia for the benefit of the UK. It improves UK policy, based on international experience and emerging opportunities and challenges. It stimulates strategic science collaborations to benefit the UK and deliver wider policy goals. And lastly, it harnesses international technology partnerships and investment to grow UK innovation capacity.

Priorities

The small SIN team in Taiwan is based in the British Office Taipei. Our engagement with Taiwan on Science and Innovation covers a broad range of themes, including Health and Life Sciences, Future Manufacturing, Clean Energy, Digital Economy (e.g. 5G and Big Data), and Space.

Our services

SIN Taiwan acts as a contact point for British universities, research institutions and innovation agencies, helping them find the right contacts and funding to achieve their objectives in Taiwan.

Events

We arrange between five and six bilateral research exchanges annually, often coinciding with major scientific symposiums or commercial conferences to promote dialogue on science and innovation.

Business opportunities

The SIN Taiwan team is available to help if you have a particular opportunity you wish to pursue with Taiwan.
