Working for British Embassy Warsaw
The British diplomatic presence in Poland consists of the British Embassy in Warsaw. Staff at the mission fall into two groups:
- UK-based staff: career diplomatic staff, employed directly by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) in London, and sent to work at posts abroad for periods of 3-5 years
- locally employed staff: local residents, employed in accordance with local employment law and practices
If you are interested in career opportunities as a UK-based officer with the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, please apply directly in London
Please be aware that there are limited opportunities for promotion or progression, however, staff are encouraged to apply for other vacancies within the Embassy as they arise.
We do not process unsolicited applications. Only those applying for a specific position and who are selected for interview will be contacted. No applications will be returned. All applicants must have a high level of spoken and written English (unless stated otherwise) and for most positions an additional fluency in Polish will be required.
The Embassy will consider all applications and invite a selection of candidates for interview. All invited candidates can expect a competency-based interview conducted in English by a panel of embassy staff. During the interview, candidates will be asked about their work experience, career history and skills. Interviews may also include a short practical exercise testing specific skills required for each role.
The Embassy runs an internship programme and offers vacancies in selected teams for students and recent graduates who are local residents. Read our offer and find out when the next round of recruitment is taking place.
Students at UK universities who are British nationals and are considering a career in the Diplomatic Service can apply to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office in London for a placement under the FCDO placement scheme or a variety of other schemes run by other government departments. Further information is available from the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office website under About us.
