Accessibility at the British Consulate General in Dusseldorf
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and the British Consulate General in Dusseldorf are keen to ensure that our buildings and services are fully accessible to all members of the public. Wherever possible, we have made our buildings and services accessible. Sometimes however, this is not possible due to security or other restrictions. In these situations, we endeavour to provide a service or access to a building in an alternative way to ensure equality of access for everyone. We have set out below details about disabled access at the British Consulate General in Dusseldorf. We hope this information is helpful.
Our consular and public areas are wheelchair accessible. You can take either lift from the ground floor (at street level) to the eighth floor.

General physical access
The British Consulate General Dusseldorf is located on the 8th floor of a shared office building and the office space has been designed and built with many features to aid disabled customers in mind. There are, however, some points that you will wish to take note of if you plan to visit us.

our street level building entrance is clear and unobstructed. You can access the lobby area at ground floor level of our office building using a wheelchair

wheelchair access to the public area of the Consulate General is gained by using a lift. Security guards are available to accompany wheelchair users

the consular section is equipped with accessible toilets specially designed for the needs of wheelchair users and those with limited physical mobility

the consular section, including the service counter is accessible to wheelchair users

lifts and all interior and exterior stairways are fitted with handrails

the Consulate General is fitted with emergency alarms and arrangements are in place for assisting disabled visitors in case of emergency/evacuation. Members of staff and/or our security team will help you leave the Consulate General

signs within the shared office building are mostly in both German and English. Some of the statutory notices in the consular section are, however, not ideally formatted for the visually impaired. Please ask if you require any help with any information within the Consulate General

hearing loops, minicom and textphones are not installed

we don’t have an internal interpreter for sign language but we can hire one. Please inform your host if you require this service

Security regulations
All visitors to the Consulate-General will have to go through the security checkpoint at the entrance on the 8th floor. Please co-operate with the security team as they conduct their checks which should only take a few minutes. The security measures in place are for the benefit of visitors and staff.

Getting to the Consulate-General
By foot
Take any tram, U-bahn or bus which stops at Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof (HBF). Leave the station via the exit Bertha-von Suttner-Platz. Walk right, up Willi-Becker-Allee. The Consulate is situated on the corner, at Willi-Becker-Allee 10, on the 8th floor.
Underground
The British Consulate-General is located just outside the central station/ Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof station.
