View a lasting power of attorney
Companies and organisations can use this online service to check who the attorneys are on a valid lasting power of attorney (LPA).
You can only use this service for LPAs registered on or after 1 January 2016 and in England or Wales.
This service is also available in Welsh (Cymraeg).
What you’ll get
You get a one page summary of the LPA which includes:
- if it’s still valid and registered
- the donor’s name, address and date of birth
- the attorneys’ names, addresses and dates of birth
- how decisions are made by the attorneys
- the donor’s instructions and preferences
You can also download a copy of the LPA summary as a PDF.
Before you start
To view the LPA summary, you’ll need the attorney or donor to generate an access code online for you.
An access code has 13 characters and starts with V. You’ll need a different access code to view each health and welfare or property and finance LPA.
If the attorney does not have an access code
If the LPA was registered before 1 January 2016, the attorney or donor cannot generate an access code. They will need to show you the registered paper LPA or a certified copy of it instead.
View the LPA online
- Enter the donor’s surname and the access code.
- Check the donor’s name and LPA type are correct.
- Give the name of your company or organisation.
There will be a record of your company or organisation name and the date so the donor and any other attorneys can see when and how the LPA is being used.
