You need permission to access a pedestrian zone with a vehicle in Northern Ireland.

How to apply

Downloaded the application from the Department for Regional Development (DRD) website. Send the completed application form and supporting documents to the relevant divisional DRD office.

There are several types of permit depending on the reason for access:

  • off-street car parking access

You must give the following information:

  • type of permit needed
  • details of the restricted zone
  • date and times of access
  • reason for access
  • vehicle details

Other permits

You can apply for a short-term permit for essential maintenance and repair to buildings within a restricted zone. Long and short-term permits may be available to local community transport providers. Other access permits may be considered where there is a valid reason.
