Understanding more about the antimalarials market in Africa: Progress in a new field of Research. Symposium held at the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene meeting, Washington, DC, USA, 20 November 2009.

Abstract

The objective of this symposium was to highlight the need for additional understanding of market dynamics in Africa, and how recent investments may contribute to better linking market understanding with the achievement of public health goals. It was structured around the example of the changing malaria environment in Africa, and followed a successful symposium on the same subject at the previous year's conference by presenting the results from research in the intervening 12 months. The four presentations, slides from which are available on the website, were about: the Affordable Medicines Facility-malaria and the role of market intelligence; the role of market intelligence in access to antimalarials; the collaboration between IMS Health and MMV on measuring market size; and improvement of data gathering at the end of the distribution chain.
