The Energy Situation in the Dadaab and Goudoubo Refugee Camps

Two papers present the findings from in-depth surveys of energy provision and consumption in refugee camps in Kenya and Burkina Faso

Abstract

As part of the Moving Energy Initiative, work has been undertaken to understand and evaluate energy use in more detail through in-depth surveys of refugee camps in Kenya and Burkina Faso. GVEP International have conducted research in the Dadaab Refugee Camps in Kenya, whilst Practical Action Consulting have conducted research in Goudoubo Refugee Camp, Burkina Faso.

These research papers present the main findings from these field studies, consider critical questions which require further consideration, and propose recommendations for how to further this research agenda in the camps in question.

This papers are outputs of the Moving Energy Initiative (MEI), a collaboration between Energy 4 Impact, Chatham House, Practical Action, the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
