The current state of mental health policy in South Africa.

Abstract

It is argued that mental health is not given the priority it deserves in South Africa, and a national mental health policy has not been formally adopted and implemented. Sections outline: the Mental Health and Poverty Project; the current status of mental health policy in South Africa; a policy analysis; and recommendations for speeding up the development of new mental health policy.
