New MDGs, development concepts and principles in a post-2015 world

Abstract

As we approach 2015 the question of what, if anything, should replace the MDGs becomes increasingly important. Building on an inter-sectoral review of key strengths and weaknesses of the MDGs, the authors consider new and emerging challenges and opportunities in the post 2015 world and their implications for thinking about development and the roles, nature and establishment of ‘new MDGs’. They postulate five principles for the process of establishing new MDGs and explore the application of these principles to prioritisation among a range of possible candidates for new MDGs.
