Local resource management institutions - Common problems and potential solutions

Abstract

Over the last two decades, in Bangladesh as elsewhere, the emphasis has been on involving local stakeholders in the management of their resources. Donors, GoB and NGOs have attempted various arrangements for natural resource management (NRM) aimed at providing sustainable and pro-poor outcomes. Unfortunately, although there have been some successes, local outcomes sometimes fail in both regards. This paper presents some of the common problems of local resource management institutions and presents some potential solutions.
