Livestock Development Goals with an Application to Senegal

Abstract

This presentation was given at the AAAE Conference on Agricultural Growth, Poverty Reduction and Millennium Development Goals in Africa Accra, Ghana, 21 August 2007. The FAO's Pro-Poor Livestock Policy Initiative (PPLPI) was introduced with a set of Livestock Development Goals (LDGs) to emphasise the relevance of the project to the developing world and conformity with the United Nations Milliennium Development Goals (MDGs). Livestock Development Indicators were discussed as a means of measuring the degree of progress made towards the LDGs. The specific application of the PPLPI to Senegal was then outlined, with economic and demographic information to support the analysis of progress towards LDGs in that country.

For related information, see the PPLPI research report \"Livestock & Livelihoods: Development Goals & Indicators applied to Senegal\".
