Government-led certification and quality complementarity in developing country food supply chains

Study examines the impact of a large scale government led mandatory quality certification in the context of Indonesia’s Halal certification mandate.

Abstract

The authors conducted a set of surveys targeted to the food supply-chain to identify key barriers that prevent producers along the chain from adopting halal certification, while also measuring the impact of adopting other official quality certifications on quality upgrading and business performance. They conducted surveys targeting actors in the slaughtering industry in the DKI Jakarta area.
