Abstract

The objectives of the project, work undertaken, and summary of major findings are briefly presented, and related publications are listed.
A low-cost 'in-house' polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and a commercial RNA amplification kit were compared to smear, culture and chest x-ray for the diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis in Lusaka, Zambia, and the PCR method was also tested in a rural district laboratory.
