Essential medicines for universal health coverage

This article identifies how essential medicines policies contribute to global sustainable development

Abstract

Essential medicines satisfy the priority health-care needs of the population, and essential medicines policies are crucial to promoting health and achieving sustainable development. The Lancet’s Commission on Essential Medicines Policies convened to explore progress, remaining challenges, lessons learned and to identify how essential medicines policies promote and contribute to the global sustainable development.

This report addresses these questions, with the intent to reposition essential medicines policies on the  global development agenda.
