Effects of Parasitism on Reservoir Fisheries in South Asia, Final Report.

Abstract

Two Indian major carp species were sampled from two bheris near Calcutta from June to November 1991. Thirty fish of each species were examined at two week intervals for the presence of the ectoparasitic branchiuran <it>Argulus sinensis</it>

. Results are reported. Sixty predatory catfish <it>Wallago attu</it>

were sampled each month from Vanivilas Sagar, a large irrigation reservoir in Karnataka, from May 1991 to February 1992 for the presence of the ectoparasitic copepod <it>Ergasilus</it>

on the gills. Results are reported. Management implications of parasitism in all the sites sampled are discussed.
