Abstract

This Insight Note discusses the rationale for teacher incentives in Tanzania, by analysing the design elements and preliminary results for the most recent phase of KiuFunza, a teacher performance pay programme in Tanzania which provides test-score linked cash incentives to teachers in Grades 1, 2, and 3 to increase foundational literacy and numeracy outcomes for students.
