Abstract

This working paper develops a working definition of lone motherhood in South Africa for the purposes of the DFID/ESRC project on 'Lone Mothers in South Africa - The role of social security in respecting and protecting dignity'. It includes a profile of lone mothers who live in the same household as their children, using data from the General Household Survey 2011.
