Deaths in the family: AIDS, demography and poverty in Africa.
Abstract
This lecture (1) reviews research from the last 20 years aimed at improving understanding of the demographic impact of the AIDS epidemic in sub-Saharan Africa (how many people are dying of AIDS in Africa and who they are); and (2) considers more recent research on the socioeconomic impact of the AIDS epidemic in sub-Saharan Africa, in particular the impact on poverty and on the development process.
