Register a private rented sector energy standards exemption
Use this service to register an exemption for a private rented sector property that does not meet the Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES).

Before you start
If you are registering a new exemption, you’ll need:
- your details, or the landlord’s details if you are an agent acting on their behalf
- the address of the property
- a valid energy performance certificate (EPC)
- evidence of how your property qualifies, depending on the exemption you are registering

Register or manage an exemption
You’ll need to sign in with GOV.UK One Login to use this service. You’ll be able to create a GOV.UK One Login if you do not already have one.

After you register a new exemption
You can rent your property immediately after registering a valid exemption. Your local council may contact you to ask for more information.
