Hazard

The product presents a high risk of fire as it is incorrectly labelled as being suitable for zone 2 areas. It is not sufficiently robust for use in zone 2 areas. If used in these areas, they may fail, potentially resulting in explosions and fire.

The product does not meet the requirements of The Equipment and Protective Systems Intended for Use in Potentially Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2016 (ATEX).

Corrective action

The manufacturer is working with users to determine which of the following is appropriate for their site:

  • Replace the existing OLE gauge, which was incorrectly labelled as being suitable for zone 2, with a new Ex certified version which is suitable for use in zone 2.
  • Relocate 22 OLE gauge control/display units, which were incorrectly labelled as being suitable for zone 2, to a safe zone.
  • Change the gauge control/display unit face label so it no longer says that it’s suitable for installation in zone 2 – NB. This is only possible if the unit is already located in a safe zone.
