Hazard

The product presents a risk of fire and explosion as it contains both Potassium Chlorate and Sulphur. These types of mixtures can be particularly susceptible to initiation by impact and friction and can spontaneously combust. The potential hazard from these items is increased if the articles are wetted or are dampened and allowed to dry. These items should also be isolated from other explosive or flammable goods.

The safety warning on the article states that if the device fails to function, it should be immersed in water and disposed of safely. If this advice is followed, then it is essential that the items remain wetted and are not allowed to dry to prevent increasing the combustion of the items.

Such pyrotechnic compositions are prohibited to import, manufacture or store within the UK without approval by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

These products are prohibited under Regulation 29 of the Explosives Regulations 2014.

Corrective action

The products have been voluntarily suspended from sale by the importer while further investigations are carried out.

Owners of affected products are strongly advised to ensure they are kept dry and returned to the original point of sale. If the items are wet, ensure they remain wet to prevent increasing the risk of combustion of the items.

Contact the distributor you purchased from for further advice and redress.
