You must have a petroleum licence to store and supply petrol.
Whether you want to run a petrol station open to the public or store petrol for your own use, you must have a petroleum licence.
Your application may be refused if you have previously broken the safety rules for holding a petroleum licence.
How to apply
Contact your district council for an application form or visit their website to apply online.
You will be charged a fee for your application.
Your petroleum licence will state who this has been issued to, how long this is valid for and any other conditions you must meet to safely store and dispense petrol on your site.
Displaying your licence
Your council will have their own rules for how to display your approved licence.
Fines and penalties
If you store and supply petrol without a licence, your petrol and storage tanks may be confiscated and you can be fined up to £1,000.
