Weight of lifeboats and rescue boats: UK21/L019

Adopted EU recommendation LSA-068. UK approved recommendation on the recording of the weight of lifeboats and rescue boats.

Question

The Life Saving Appliances (LSA) Code paragraph 4.4.1.2 requires that each lifeboat/rescue boat shall be provided with a certificate or declaration of conformity which specifies, among others; item, the total mass fully equipped and the total mass fully manned.

  1. Which lifeboats or rescue boats weights should be included on the Type Examination Certificate and Declaration of Conformity?

  2. What is the acceptable weight deviation such as underweight boat and overweight boat in production?

Recommendation

  1. In accordance with LSA Code, the type Examination Certificate shall detail the total mass fully equipped and the total mass fully manned.

  2. In accordance with LSA Code, the Declaration of Conformity should include the total mass fully equipped and the total mass fully manned as measured during the production test for each individual boat.

The above weights shall remain in accordance with the type examination
