Launching appliances for freefall lifeboats: UK21/L010

Adopted EU recommendation LSA-043. UK approved recommendation on approval of a secondary means of launching free-fall lifeboats.

Question

Under the item “Launching appliances for free-fall lifeboats” for module G, is it possible to approve a secondary mean of launching and a free fall launching ramp separately?

Recommendation

In the case where the secondary means of launching is an integral part of the system “Launching appliances for free-fall lifeboats” it cannot be approved as a single item.

Where the secondary means of launching is a separate crane or davit, with no structural connection to the primary means, then it is possible to issue separate approvals. In this case the front page of the certificate and the conditions should clearly state that the launching system is part of a combined launching system and for full compliance both primary and secondary systems are required to meet statutory requirements.
