Confirmation on the certification on upholstered furniture: UK21/F004
Adopted EU recommendation FIRE-014. UK approved recommendation on the certification of components of upholstered furniture.
Question
Is it possible to issue certificates on components of upholstered furniture, e.g. covers (fabrics)?
Recommendation
According to the International Code for Application of Fire Test Procedures 2010 (2010 FTP Code) Annex 1, Part 8, Appendix 1, chapter 1; “This test procedure prescribes methods for assessing the ignitability of material combinations, e.g. covers and fillings used in upholstered seating, …”
This statement should be interpreted that the approval is to be granted to the combination of components (coverings and fillings) rather than to the components themselves.
The UK type examination certificate is to indicate (on the certificate face or in its appendix) the characteristics of the components used for manufacturing the certified product.
