Application of MSC.1/Circ.1419: UK21/L020
Adopted EU recommendation LSA-071. UK approved recommendation UK21/L020 on the application of MSC.1/Circ.1419 for lifeboats and rescue boats.
Question
MSC.1/Circ.1419 is listed as a requirement for item UK/1.26 “Release mechanism for (a) Lifeboats and rescue boats (launched by a fall or falls), (b) Liferafts (launched by a fall or falls), (c) Free Fall Lifeboats” without instruction regarding its application for lifeboats, rescue boats, liferafts or free-fall lifeboats.
Recommendation
This guideline MSC.1/Circ.1419 is intended for a release mechanism complying with paragraph 4.4.7.6 of the Life Saving Appliances (LSA) Code.
Therefore, it is applicable for:
- release mechanism for lifeboats
- release mechanism for lifeboats, which also comply with the requirements for rescue boats, and
- on-load release mechanism for rescue boats
It is not applicable for:
- release mechanism for liferafts
- release mechanism for free fall lifeboats, or
- off-load release mechanism for rescue boats
