Synopsis

The skipper of this 11 metre potter fell overboard while hauling a string of pots. In spite of strenuous efforts, his deckhand was unable to recover him alone. With the help of the skipper of a nearby fishing vessel, the skipper was finally recovered and air lifted to hospital. Unfortunately he lost his life.

Action taken

The Chief Inspector decided a full investigation was not appropriate. An article will be published on one of MAIB’s Safety Digests highlighting the value to fishermen of wearing a lifejacket while on deck.
