Synopsis

A fisherman was lost over board as the fishing vessel he was working on entered the harbour in heavy weather.

Action taken

A letter was sent to the Coroner highlighting the contributing factors to the accident:

  • The casualty was not wearing a lifejacket

  • The casualty was wearing oilskins and wellington boots

  • There was an ebb tide and undercurrent at the harbour

  • The wind conditions would have limited any call for help to be heard

  • The weather and sea conditions would have adversely affected survival time
