Synopsis

The cargo vessel Arklow Sand departed the port of Boston, Lincolnshire, and had disembarked her pilot. Shortly after she grounded on the bank “ Long Sand” in the wash.

Action taken

The Chief Inspector of Marine Accidents wrote to the vessel’s owners to emphasise company procedures regarding passage planning, monitoring of the vessel’s position and the reporting of defects in ship critical equipment.
