Synopsis

This 12m fishing vessel caught fire while unattended alongside her berth. The evidence indicated that the fire was electrical in origin and plant had been left running

Action taken:

To prevent a similar accident occurring in the future the owners of the vessel were recommended to :

  • Consider the dangers involved in unattended operational machinery and live electrical circuits and ensure that an efficient port watch is maintained at all times

  • Ensure that electrical wiring and equipment is fit for marine use, is installed correctly and regularly tested
