VAT Insurance

VAT and Insurance Premium Tax (IPT): What is IPT?: Who is liable to be registered for IPT?

Premiums are treated as being inclusive of the IPT due. It is the responsibility of the insurer to register and account for any IPT due. The exception to this is intermediaries arranging insurance liable to the higher rate and charging a separate arrangement fee to the customer. These intermediaries are liable to register as ‘taxable intermediaries’ and account for IPT to HMRC on their arrangement fees.
