Example of how to perform a modulus check

Air waybill number: 125 - 6445 137 6

125 = IATA airline code (in this case British Airways)

64451376 = unique air waybill number

6 = the last number is the check digit

• Divide first seven digits of air waybill number by 7 (6445137 ÷ 7 = 920733.85)
• Ignore decimal and multiply by 7 (920733 x 7 = 6445131)
• deduct this figure from the unique air waybill number (6445137 – 6445131 = 6 (the check digit))
• Check is satisfactory.
