TSI005150 - Application: Application process

NFAU allocates the premises a unique reference number and sends a confirmation letter, this is signed by operator and returned. The chosen CSP is notified when a new authorisation becomes live. After the application process is complete, it will be a commercial decision for the applicant to choose their option of Temporary Storage Facility. The NFAU provides badge code and instructions for the badge code to be live where the site will become operational.

From January 2022, all GB frontier locations that import goods from outside GB need to have chosen a Customs Control Model, temporary storage being one of those. To become approved the site operator will need to apply to the National Frontiers Approvals Unit (NFAU) based within Border Force. If operators wish to provide temporary storage facilities, they will need to secure a separate temporary storage approval.
