TFC20100 - Entitlement periods: what is an entitlement period

Once a person is entitled to TFC they will usually remain entitled for 3 months. This period of time is known as an entitlement period. A person’s first entitlement period begins on the day on which HMRC confirm that the person is an eligible person for the entitlement period.

Each subsequent entitlement period begins on the day after the previous entitlement period ends.

Where the first period begins or ends on the 31st of the month, each subsequent period begins or ends on the last day of the month.

Where the first period begins or ends on the 29th or 30th of the month, each subsequent period begins or ends on the 29th or 30th of the month, except for February when it begins or ends on the 27th, or in a leap year the 28th.
