SVM115070 - Liaison with Valuation Office Agency and other offices: Plant and Machinery

Plant and machinery may be referred to the Valuation Office Agency (VOA) for valuation usually (but not necessarily) with the associated land and buildings; and the VOA may call upon the specialist assistance of the Plant and Machinery Valuer where necessary.

All such valuation requests should in the first instance be referred to the Service Delivery Team who will liaise with the Valuation Office Liaison Officer (VOLO). Specialist advice can be obtained on an informal basis.

There is however a need for cost-effectiveness and as a general rule references should only be made where both

  • the amount involved is likely to have a significant effect on the value of the shares, and
  • the value adopted by the parties appears unreasonable.
