P11D processing: ECS / NPS inhibition signal: introduction

The signal is used to inhibit the transfer of information from ECS onto the employees’ NPS records. Therefore it should only be set on a record where this is the intention such as

  • Where all the benefits paid to all the employees are payrolled
  • Church of England Clergy scheme

The ECS / NPS Inhibition signal is year based and will not be carried forward to the following year. Where the signal is appropriate it must be reset annually.

Since April 2011 the ECS / NPS inhibition signal can only be set manually.

However, prior to April 2011 this was also automatically set for the year when P11D information was submitted by EDI, Internet (FBI) or Magnetic Media.

Employers who have had the inhibition signal set for the year can be identified from the InfoNET information network under the heading ECS P11D Inhibition Cases List.

For details of how to access the Cases list, see PAYE58010.

For details of the review procedure, see PAYE58015.
