Authorised businesses include banks, insurance companies and financial advisers that are regulated by FCA under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 (FSMA). Authorised firms are subject to regulation that covers many more aspects of their business. For example, FCA check whether the people who own and run an authorised firm are ‘fit and proper’.
