Structure of the charge: what is a chargeable transfer?

A chargeable transfer is a transfer of value (IHTM04024) made by an individual that is not an exempt transfer (IHTM04026). A transfer of value may be wholly or partly exempt. To the extent that it is not exempt it is chargeable to inheritance tax.
