INCHP02140 - General: presentation of entries to Customs

Note: This manual is under review following Brexit and is likely to be withdrawn. If there is anything within this manual you use regularly, please email hmrcmanualsteam@hmrc.gov.uk to let us know. Please check the other guidance available on GOV.UK from HMRC.

Import declarations must be presented at the National Clearance Hub, Salford. CFSP declarations can be presented up to 5 days before the expected arrival of the importing ship, aircraft or vehicle (except: SDWs, SDIs, FSDs and WTDs). If declarations are input by Direct Trader Input (DTI) more than 5 days before the arrival of the goods, CHIEF will automatically delete them after that period.

Import declarations must be presented no later than 90 days.

Import declarations can be pre entered onto CHIEF up to 21 days prior to the arrival of the vessel/goods. This period includes weekends and public holidays. For declarations entered by DTI, goods which have not arrived within 21 days are expected to be removed from CHIEF by the importer or his agent until the necessary system changes have been made to enable the CHIEF auto delete facility to function in tandem with (air)port inventory systems.

The hard copy import declaration and any supporting papers for those entries which importers and/or their agents honestly believe will be allocated a Route 1, 2 or 3 can be pre lodged with the NCH up to 5 actual days prior to the arrival of the goods/vessel. This period includes weekends and public holidays.

All valid entries that are presented to Customs after the arrival of the goods at their place of discharge may be accepted immediately.
